Basking Ridge

Home to over 26,000 people, Basking Ridge, is an unincorporated community that is a part of the Bernards Township in Somerset County, New Jersey. Basking Ridge was settled in the 1720s by British Presbyterians escaping religious persecution. The original Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church at this spot was a log church built circa 1717. It was replaced in 1749 by a frame church, which stood in Basking Ridge during the Revolutionary War. A company of colonial soldiers drilled on the church grounds in 1775. Many men who belonged to the church congregation fought in the Revolutionary War. The 1749 church building was torn down in 1839 and replaced on the same site with the brick structure that still stands here today. Basking Ridge was a secure place from the British Army as it was only seven miles away from the center of Washington’s army, at Jockey Hollow. Almost 50 years ago, AT&T constructed its headquarters on 140 acres in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. This corporate base came to occupy 2.7 million square feet of office space surrounded by superbly designed landscaping that hosted world-class sculpture as well as a private helipad. Despite the large office complexes, including the 2.7-million-square-foot world headquarters of AT&T, Basking Ridge retains its small-town character today.
