Propane Clinton, New Jersey

The town of Clinton is located within Hunterdon County on the South Branch of the Raritan River. As of the 2010 United States Census, the town’s population is close to 2,719. While the town’s resident population remains small, Clinton is known as a predominant control city for Interstate 78. The town of Clinton spans just over 1.44 sq miles and was incorporated on April 5, 1865.

When the Clinton post office was established 36 years before the town’s incorporation, DeWitt Clinton served as the Governor of New York and the instigator of the Erie Canal development. When Clinton was incorporated in 1865, New Jersey Legislature created the town from portions of Clinton, Franklin, and Union townships. However, Clinton gained full independence from its parent townships thirty years later.

Two of the town’s most well-known structures are two mills which sit on banks of the South Branch Raritan River, Stone Mill, and Red Mill. The Red Mill dates back to 1810, when mills were often used for wool processing. The Stone Mill, today the site of the Hunterdon Art Museum for Contemporary Craft and Design, was previously used as a gristmill or a mill that ground cereal grain into flour.  The Stone Mill continued to operate until the late 1930s.

As of 2015, Clinton has more than 12 miles of roadways which are maintained by the municipality and the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The most traveled roadway that passes through Clinton is Interstate 78/U.S. Route 22. Assess to this Interstate allows Clinton residents a direct route to New York City and Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania. Residents can also access Philadelphia from Interstate 78 by merging onto New Jersey Route 31 to Interstate 295 south. Local residents often use Trans-Bridge Lines busses to travel between Allentown and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan. The LINK also serves Hunterdon County, with Warren County operating a shuttle along Route 31 between Monday and Friday.
