Conshohocken

Conshohocken is a borough in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania on the Schuylkill River. Historically a large mill town and industrial and manufacturing center, after the decline of industry in recent years Conshohocken has developed into a center of riverfront commercial and residential development. In the regional slang, it is sometimes referred to by the colloquial nickname Conshy. The name “Conshohocken” comes from the Unami language, from either Kanshi’hak’ing, meaning “Elegant-ground- place”, or, more likely, Chottschinschu’hak’ing, which means “Big-trough-ground-place” or “Large-bowl-ground-place”, referring to the big bend in the Turtle River, or modern Schuylkill River. Conshohocken is a one-square mile borough located in southeast Pennsylvania, about 15 miles from Philadelphia. It has quickly developed into a hub of residential and commercial activity, becoming one of the most important professional centers in Montgomery County. Restaurants and bars lined Fayette Street. Unique shopping can be found in and around town. And you’re never far from adventure on the trail. Conshohocken sits on the convergence of two of Montgomery County’s premier trails. First, the Schuylkill River Trail hugs the curve in the Schuylkill River that marks Conshohocken’s southern border as it connects Valley Forge and Philadelphia. An offshoot of the SRT called the Cross-County Trail connects Conshohocken and Plymouth Meeting, with additional mileage planned for future development.
