Drexel Hill

Drexel Hill is a census-designated place in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania with a population of about 28,043 people. Drexel Hill has a total area of about 3.2 square miles and it’s about 8 miles from Center City, Philadelphia. Drexel Hill is home to some historical landmarks like The Lower Swedish Cabin on Creek Road. It’s thought to be the oldest log house in all of North America and it’s believed to be the product of early Swedish settlers from the New Sweden colony. Most likely built between 1638 and 1655, the log cabin had a style that was copied and emulated all across America by many different groups of European settlers. Drexel Hill also includes the Collen Brook Farm, which is a historic house and group of buildings. The original house and barn were built around 1710 by a man named Abraham Lewis and the historic landmarks were acquired by Upper Darby Township in 1989. 

Those aren’t the only interesting things about Drexel Hill, however. The neighborhood was home to the one and only Dick Clark from 1954-1956. Clark lived in Drexelbrook Apartment complex and hosted the Barr’s Diamond Theater and a radio show while living there.
