In Middlesex County lies East Brunswick, New Jersey, home to 47,500 residents. Located on the Raritan River’s southern shore, East Brunswick is a suburban community located within the New York City metropolitan area. The township was incorporated on February 28, 1860, and spanned more than 22 sq miles. East Brunswick was incorporated by New Jersey Legislature and was constructed from portions of Monroe and North Brunswick Townships. Portions of East Brunswick were later used to form Washington town, Helmetta, Milltown, and Spotswood.

Lenape Native Americans had occupied the East Brunswick area for thousands of years before it was purchased by Thomas Lawrence, a New York baker, in 1677 from local Native Americans named Querameck, Kesyacs, Isarick, Metapis, Peckawan, and Turantecs. The area was previously known as Piscopeek, later becoming Lawrence Brook and finally East Brunswick. In the late 17th century, Europeans began to settle East Brunswick, and by the mid-1800s, a small settlement known as Old Bridge had formed. Previously a farming community, East Brunswick’s suburban settlement was established in the early 1930s along with the development of roads within the area. After World War 2 and the housing boom, East Brunswick transformed into the modern suburban community seen today.
