Propane New Jersey

Propane Franklin Borough, New Jersey

Nicknamed the Fluorescent Mineral Capital of the world, Franklin is a borough in Sussex County, New Jersey with a population of around 5,045 and a total area of 4.43 square miles, .07 of that being water. The borough is located over a huge body of ore containing more than 150 minerals, many being fluorescent and 25 found nowhere else on Earth. The borough was settled in the 17th century and called the Franklin Furnace, after Benjamin Franklin, and it developed near iron mines and iron smelting operations along the Wallkill River. Zinc deposits began being developed commercially in the area in the early 19th century. A ton of small companies mined zinc and iron in the Franklin area all throughout that century. In 1897, however, all zinc mining became a part of the efforts made by the New Jersey Zinc Company. The New Jersey Zinc Company was a major controlling factor in the development of Franklin Township along with the borough. The population grew a lot between 1897 and 1913 due to the amount of immigrants from Russia, Britain, Hungary, and Poland that joined the workforce. The population went from around 500 in 1897 to about 3,000 by 1913.

If you enjoy minerals and things of that nature, while in Franklin, you can go visit the Franklin Mineral Museum. The museum has 3 main galleries, one for rocks, minerals, and gems, one for fossils, and another for American Indian Art with arrowheads and other pieces of history. The Museum is described as a great place to visit and a must-see. Go visit and enjoy the fluorescent room and mineshaft walk.
