Propane Fredon Township, New Jersey

Fredon Township is a township in Sussex County, New Jersey with a population of around 3,437 incredible residents and a total area of around 17.92 square miles, about .28 square miles of that being water. The township used to be called Coursen’s Corner, named by Isaac V. Coursen in the year 1800 after he created the Coursen House general store and put a post office in it, but he changed the name of the township to Fredon Village before his death in 1855. The name comes from the German word “Fredonia” which means place of freedom. Fredon Township was incorporated on February 24, 1904 from parts of Andover Township, Green Township, Hampton Township, and Stillwater Township. The township used to have the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway, from 1872 to 1962 and it ran through the Paulinskill Valley, which runs on the northwest border along Hampton and Stillwater Townships. It was used to transport agricultural products to New York City.
