Located in Warren County, NJ, in the easternmost region of Lehigh Valley lies Hackettstown. Home to nearly 10,000 people, Hackettstown was incorporated in 1853 and today spans over 3.71 sq miles. The town was created from portions of Independence Township with portions exchanged with Mansfield Township in 1857, 1860, 1872, and 1875. The town was named after Samuel Hackett, one of their earliest settlers of the area and a successful landowner. Town legend claims that Samuel Hackett provided refreshments during the opening of a new hotel to ensure the town be named after him instead of Helms’ Mill or Musconetcong. In 2005, Money Magazine named Hackettstown #72 of the top 100 towns in the United States to live and work.

Within Hackettstown lies the Hackettstown School District, which services kindergarten through twelfth grade. Hackettstown School District holds four schools, two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The total enrollment of the four schools is close to 2,000 students with a student-teacher ratio of 11.9:1. Students from a variety of townships attend Hackettstown high school, including Allamuchy, Independence, and Liberty township. In 2001, Hackettstown Middle School was recognized by the United States Department of Education with the national Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence, the highest honor for an American school. Additionally, Hackettstown is home to Centenary University, a private college founded in 1867 with ties to the United Methodist Church. Today, Centenary University hosts close to 2000 undergraduates and 1100 graduate students.
