Haddon Heights

Named after the American pioneer, Elizabeth Haddon, Haddon Heights is a small borough in Camden County, New Jersey that is home to around 7,000 people. Situated just over 10 miles from historic Philadelphia, Haddon Heights affords easy access to big-city convenience, while preserving a small-town lifestyle that is such a rare find in today’s fast-paced world. The land that is today referred to as Hadden Heights was first settled in 1699 by John Hinchman. A few years later in 1713, John Siddon built a farmhouse right near the property of Hinchman. On this property, John Thorn Glover dammed the King’s Run and constructed a mill race and fulling mill. Then Jacob Hinchman built a frame dwelling no later than 1720 that was later enlarged by the American Revolutionary War hero Col. Joseph Ellis. It is currently referred to as the Col. Joseph Ellis House. New Jersey Governor Joseph Bloomfield later purchased this property. Haddon Heights is one of only 11 towns named a Classic Town of Greater Philadelphia by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, a distinction that reflects the town’s high quality of life with minimal auto use, close proximity to public transportation, and walkable shops and restaurants.
