Hampton Township

Hampton township is a township in Sussex County, New Jersey. As of the 2010 US Census, the population was around 5,196 lovely people. The township has a big total area of around 25.48 square miles, with about 24.57 square miles of that being land and about .91 square miles of that being water. The Township was formed by parts of Sussex County by an act of the New jersey Legislature on April 11,1864. The township was named in honor of Johnathan Hampton, who was just kind enough to donate land to the lovely Episcopal Church of Newon. State Legislator Robert Hamilton, who happened to be one of the Episcopalians from that church, appreciated the generosity that Johnathan Hampton offered the church and named the township after him. Portions of Hampton were taken on February 24, 1904 to form Fredon Township.
