Sewaren, NJ Propane
Sewaren is an unincorporated community and
census-designated place located within Woodbridge Township and Middlesex
County, New Jersey. As of the 2010 United States Census, the community’s total
population numbered just over 2,700 citizens.
PSE&G’s Sewaren Generating Station was a
582-megawatt facility located on 152 acres near the Arthur Kill. Early in its
operation, the facility had five steam generators and a combustion turbine.
Four of the five steam units were installed from 1942 to 1951 during WW2 war
efforts. The fifth generator, which included a gas/oil-fired boiler and two
turbine generations, was one of the PSE&G’s finest and was dismantled in
2002.
As part of Middlesex county, Sewaren is located
within one of the wealthiest counties in New Jersey. The Bureau of Economic
Analysis has currently ranked the county as having the 143rd highest per capita
income of all counties within the United States. Additionally, the county is
home to a variety of noteworthy universities and colleges, including Middlesex
County College, Rutgers University-New Brunswick Campus, Rutgers Biomedical and
Health Sciences, Princeton University, DeVry University, Chamberlain
University, New Brunswick Theological Seminary. Today, some of Middlesex county
and Sewaren’s major employers include Rutgers University, Robert Wood Johnson
University Hospital, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Merrill Lynch & company.
Thanks to Middlesex and Sewaren’s prime location and strong transportation system, many universities and corporations have chosen Middlesex as their home base. Of the many public transportation options available in Middlesex, many commuters choose the NJ Transit commuter rail with service along the North Jersey Coast Line, Northeast Corridor Line, and Raritan Valley Line. Additionally, Amtrak’s Intercity rail service has built a variety of routes, including Acela Express, Keystone, Northeast Regional, and Vermonter services, with Keystone and Northeast Regional making regular stops at New Brunswick and Metropark station. To cater to the town’s massive student population, New Jersey Transit has provided Middlesex county with Coach USA’s Suburban Transit, MCAT shuttle system, and DASH buses that serve multiple townships throughout the workweek.
