Titusville, NJ Propane

Titusville is an unincorporated community located within Hopewell Township in Mercer County. Titusville is located just north of the Johnson Ferry House in adjacent Washington Crossing, where George Washington’s crossing of the Delaware River during the American Revolution. In 1831, the ferry was replaced by the Washington Crossing Bridge, linking Washington Crossing to Titusville.

One of the main employers of Titusville residents is Jansen Pharmaceuticals Inc., a division of Johnson and Johnson. Jansen Pharmaceuticals specializes in pharmaceutical therapies in several categories, including cardiovascular and metabolism, immunology, infectious diseases and vaccines, neuroscience, oncology, and pulmonary hypertension. Originally an independent organization founded by Titusville resident Dr. Paul Jansen, a leading pharmaceutical researcher, pharmacologist, and general practitioner, Jansen Pharmaceutica joined the Johnson & Johnson family in 1961.

One of Titusville’s main features is a small village that sits on a bluff overlooking the Delaware River. Several stairwells connect the village to private docks along the river. The Feeder Canal for the Delaware and Raritan Canal runs parallel to the Delaware River and is connected to Route 29 by two-lane bridges.

Titusville can be accessed by New Jersey Route, which conveys traffic along the Delaware River. Near Route 29 lies Washington Crossing State Park, an 800-acre tract of fields, streams, and local woods. The park stands from Bear Tavern Road down to the Delaware River. In 1851 the Belvidere-Delaware Railroad opened a Titusville station on the New Jersey track. Passenger service ended in 1952, but passenger trains from other towns continued to operate within the area until October 1960, with freight use continuing until 1976. In the early 1980s, the track was finally removed for the creation of the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park recreational trail.
