West Grove

West Grove is a borough in Chester County, Pennsylvania with a population of about 2,839 lovely people and a total area of about .65 square miles. West Grove takes its name from the Friends Meetinghouse that was built on Harmony Road in 1787. It was built in London Grove, which was later separated into West Grove and London Grove. West Grove became an incorporated borough in 1893, after several years of growth in the community. The growth followed the building and operation of the Philadelphia and Baltimore Central Railroad in 1860, and the borough of West Grove was named “one of the most flourishing villages in this county” by the Daily Local News. In 1836, a man named Joseph Pyle was born in Penn Township. Joseph Pyle became known as the father of West Grove. Pyle constructed and opened a general store in 1860 along with a bunch of other buildings in the borough including the Roselyn Theater Building (which was torn down in 1980), the National Bank of West Grove, and the K & P building. He was appointed as postmaster of the borough by President Abraham Lincoln in 1864, and he served in that position for twenty-two years.
