Frankford Township

Frankford Township is a township in Sussex County, New Jersey with a population of around 5,565 lovely residents and a total area of around 35.30 square miles with 1.42 of those square miles being water. The township was formed on April 10th, 1779, from pieces of Newton Township, and it was incorporated on February 21, 1798 as one of the original 104 townships in New Jersey by act of the New Jersey Legislature. Unfortunately, pieces of Frankford were taken to form Lafayette Township, Sparta Township, and Branchville. The township is named after Frankford, a town near Philadelphia, because a visitor from there came to the township to help with the rural school. 

 Since 1976, Frankford Township has been part of and home to the Farm and Horse Show. The show expanded after it was taking place somewhere other than Branchville and The New Jersey State Fair / Sussex County Farm & Horse Show as we see it today was born. It’s now the home to a ton of activities and events during the year. Hopefully coming soon to the township is a large outlet mall, which has been proposed for the intersection of US Route 206, Route 15, and County Route 565 in front of Skylands Park. Skylands Park is a 4,300 seat baseball park, which was home to the New Jersey Cardinals from 1993-2005 and the Sussex Skyhawks of the Can-Am league from 2006 to 2010, where it was taken over by the Sussex County Miners in the year 2015.
