Old Zionsville

Part of the Upper Milford Township, Old Zionsville is an unincorporated community in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. Nestled within rolling hills and scenic valleys, the Township has a rural aura with picturesque churches and barns, many vintage houses, fields for farming, and small family businesses. The area of modern-day Zionsville was once inhabited by the Lenni Lenape tribe and lived on for almost 10,000 years. The Lenape tribes were known to live along river fronts or creeks and using the fertile land around these areas for farming purposes. Due to the overwhelming harvesting and planting of the land, it degraded its quality and eventually could no longer sustain crop, leading to the land becoming uninhabitable and the tribes slowly left the area. Nearby areas include immediate neighbors, Emmaus and Macungie; Allentown and Bethlehem, 15-20 minutes north; and the Upper Perkiomen Valley, 15 minutes south. Philadelphia is a 45-minute drive south. Upper Milford Township was the first township organized in Lehigh County. Old Zionsville straddles the divide between the Lehigh and Schuylkill River watersheds. The first settlement was made at or near Old Zionsville in 1733, by the Mennonites. The township was organized in 1734 and contained four stores, hotel two, churches and post office.
