Berlin is a borough in Camden County, New Jersey, that is home to over 7,000 people. This borough is home to quite a bit of history. The first settlers came to what is now Berlin in 1714. The village was once called long-a-coming, named for being along the Lonaconing trail, a Native American travel route that ran from the river to the sea. What was then Long-a-coming became a stopping point for travelers since it rested at the halfway point between Philadelphia and Atlantic City. Once Camden County was created in 1844, the area known as Berlin was considered the county seat. In 1856, the Long-a-coming railroad station was built and was renamed Magnolia in 1867, which caused confusion for many because there is another Magnolia in Camden County, so they renamed the community to Berlin three months later. The borough is still an excellent place to stop through with its hidden gems like the New Berlin Diner. This classic American diner is a lively joint that serves a long list of hearty meals while creating a family-friendly environment with a retro feel.
