Not to be confused with Gwynedd, Gwynedd Valley is also an unincorporated community within the Lower Gwynedd Township in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Also a part of one of the oldest townships in Montgomery County, Gwynedd Valley also has a rich history to offer. The land was settled by the Quakers in the late 1600’s, with the help of William Penn. The word Gwynedd is derived from the Welsh word “Gwyn Eth” which means white fields because when the pilgrims first arrived, the community was covered with a blanket of snow. Located at the crossing of Plymouth Road lies the Gwynedd Valley station along the SEPTA Lansdale and Doylestown Line. The train station was opened in 1888 but was not introduced to electricity until 1931. The community is home to the campus of Gwynedd Mercy University.
