Immaculata

Immaculata is a town in Chester County, Pennsylvania. It is home to Immaculata University, a private Roman Catholic school that was founded by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Immaculata University is on over 300 acres of land and it has 1,427 traditional undergrads and adult students, and over 1,000 graduate and doctoral students. Immaculata University was originally known as the Villa Maria Women’s College and it was founded in 1920. The name was changed to Immaculata College in 1929 and the school became co-educational in the year 2005. Immaculata has many buildings on its campus, including Alumnae Hall, The Mary A. Bruder Center, The Gabriele Library, and Lourdes Hall. 

One of the most notable things about Immaculata University is its successful women’s basketball team. The team has been in several tournaments throughout the years and they won 3 consecutive national championships from 1972 to 1974.  The team was even on a special SportsCenter show for their accomplishments in the 70s in 2008. The story of the Immaculata University women’s basketball team was even made into a movie that was released in 2011.
