Lebanon is located north of the Round Valley Reservoir, a reservoir built in 1960 when the New Jersey Water Authority constructed two large dams and flooded a large valley in the area. Round Valley is named after the surrounding circular valley, as Cushetunk Mountain partially surrounds the reservoir. The reservoir contains more than 55 billion gallons of water, the largest in the state. Its water has been distrusted throughout the state during times of drought via the Raritan River's south branch. The Round Valley Reservoir park is known for its hiking and biking trails, as well as its camping area, swimming, and scuba diving facilities. Another primary site in the Lebanon area is the Hunterdon County Arboretum. The arboretum covers more than 73 acres and is the headquarters of Hunterdon County's park system. The Hunterdon County Arboretum started as a commercial nursery in 1953 and grew native and exotic trees. When the Park Department purchased the property in 1974, they build walking trails for the public.
Today, the borough has 7.08 miles of roadways maintained by Hunterdon County, the New Jersey Department of Transportation, and the municipality.
