Riverside

Riverside is a township in Burlington County, New Jersey that is now home to about 8,000 people. In 1851, Samuel Bechtold founded Riverside, which he originally named “Progress.” At first, the community was a resort town where people came to enjoy the forests, meadows, streams and ponds. It was a popular place for people in Philadelphia to go to get some fresh air and a break from the city. The town also was once home to the world’s largest watch case manufacturer in an era when everyone carried pocket watches like they do cellphones today. The Philadelphia Watch Case Company did business around the globe from a company building located in what is known now as the Golden Triangle. The building’s clock tower has since become a Riverside landmark and the Watchcase factory as well as numerous hosiery mills in town helped war efforts during WWI and then again in WWII. Riverside is also known for a syrup concentrate called BOOST! In 1913, pharmacist Benjamin Faunce invented “Take-A-Boost,” and served it to customers at his Bridgeboro Street pharmacy to help the medicine go down easier. The concentrate combines a blend of citrus flavors and remains a popular thirst quencher today!
